Increase adult and multi-generation learning and social opportunities that illuminate the connections between Judaism, our lives and the world around us.

  1. Continue the leadership of the Chai Committee in coordinating overall Beth Israel programming, holiday observances and worship.
    1. Identify and encourage volunteers to help with organization of discrete programs and holiday events.
    2. Explore program co-sponsorship or other collaboration with regional synagogues, the JCA and other Jewish organizations.
    3. Identify Beth Israel liaisons with churches and other organizations in the area to coordinate and publicize events of mutual interest.
  2. Organize 3 - 5 programs or short series annually that appeal to diverse interests of the Jewish and broader community; include a social gathering time in all events.
    1. Offering programs like the successful medical ethics series.
    2. Arts programs highlighting Jewish music, theater, film, dance, or visual arts.
      • Continue and expand collaboration with Maine Jewish Film Festival.
      • Inter-religious programming with Jewish and non-Jewish clergy or other presenters.
      • Excellent speakers on topics relating to social issues or world events that present diverse points of view and encourage participant discussion.
      • Cooking classes, book groups, group meals at local restaurants, and other smaller scale ideas.
      • Group trips in Maine or to events in Boston, New York and elsewhere.
      • Potential collaboration with Maine Conference for Jewish Life; publicize and facilitate participation of Beth Israel community in Conference programs.
  3. Increase participation of Beth Israel in service projects in Mid-coast communities.
    1. Continue participation with Mid-coast Hunger Prevention Program and engage more Beth Israel families.
    2. Identify 1 or 2 additional community opportunities addressing human needs, environmental or conservation concerns, and facilitate participation by Beth Israel families and multi-generation groups.
  4. Consider collaboration with the Jewish Community Alliance and other synagogues to promote Beth Israel participation in travel to Israel and other organized trips.
